A writ petition has recently been filed before the Supreme Court of India seeking direction for establishing guidelines to regulate live broadcasts of surgeries during medical conferences. The petition alleged that surgeons, private hospitals, and companies have been exploiting patients by streaming live surgeries for self-promotion, advertising sponsorships, and showcasing professional prowess, all at the expense of patient wellbeing. Additionally, the petition argued that pre-recorded surgical videos can achieve the same objectives without compromising patient safety.

In response to this petition, the National Medical Commission of India has decided to form a committee of experts to provide recommendations on this issue.
