Inpatient hypoglycemia is a preventable complication that has been associated with increased hospital stay, health costs, mortality, and utilization of hospital resources resulting in patient dissatisfaction. More than 10% of the patients suffer from the hypoglycemic event at least once in the non-critical care hospital settings. This article reviews the present strategies the non-critical care hospitals can implement and e the safe and effective use of insulin to reduce the hypoglycemic incidents. A significant hypoglycemia is confirmed when glucose concentration is < 54mg/dl.
