In the year 1968 when I was a registrar in a KEM Hospital Mumbai we had a patient presenting with absent pulse, no BP recordable and in shock.This patient was revived and the only history available was that he had collapsed with excruciating pain in the abdomen.This, patient was revived by running IV fluids and Blood transfusions and explored in the OT.There was a pool officer those days (FRCS) There was a pool officer those days (FRCS) assisting.We found about 18 feet of gangrene of the small bowel.'The pool officer advised me to close the abdomen.I consulted my senior registrar who asked me to go ahead and take a decision. I managed to resect the gangrenous part of the bowel anastomosing the proximal jejunum to the distal Ileum and successfully managed to survive the patient.

One and half years later I saw the same patient when he brought one of his relatives for some complaint.The…
