Intraocular foreign bodies (IOFBs) present about 16–41% of open globe injuries and frequently cause severe visual loss in patients along with ocular trauma. Previous studies have stated that most IOFBs are work-related, and accidents are significantly more common among young men, who usually account for more than 90% of cases. Though foreign objects can be composed of almost any substance, most reported ones are metal, as the majority of patients get injured while wielding a hammer. Additionally, IOFBs can get embedded in any ocular structure, from the anterior chamber to the retina.
