Synopsis Pilon fractures mostly result from high energy trauma and are usually accompanied by multiple metaphyseal fragments. In addition, pilon fractures are also associated with displacement of intra-articular comminution and serious injuries to the soft tissues. Surgical treatment of pilon fractures entails complex post-operative complexities, warranting a new strategy that can confer improved surgical outcomes.
