Although time-restricted eating (TRE) has gained popularity as a weight-loss strategy, its efficacy and safety in people with type 1 diabetes (T1D) remain inadequately established. To address this evidence gap, a small randomized study evaluated whether an 8-hour TRE regimen, with eating limited to 12 PM to 8 PM without calorie counting, was more effective than standard calorie restriction (CR), defined as a 25% daily energy restriction, for reducing body weight in 32 adults with T1D and overweight or obesity. After 6 months, body weight did not change significantly with TRE (-2.19%) or CR (-0.47%) compared with a no-intervention control group.
