Doctors at the government-run MKCG Medical College and Hospital have successfully performed a complex four-hour neurosurgical procedure on a three-year-old boy from Umerkote, removing an 8cm-long twig lodged deep inside his brain and saving his life. The rare high-risk surgery has given the child a new lease of life after a freak accident left him critically injured. The child, Om Harijan, sustained severe head trauma on April 28 when a branch from a tree fell on him while he was playing near his home in Bhagabati Nagar under Umerkote block.
Although family members removed the visible part of the branch, a significant portion had already penetrated his skull, causing continuous bleeding and posing a life-threatening risk. The boy was initially rushed to Umerkote hospital before being referred to LN Medical College and Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to MKCGโฆ
