Trachoma is a disease of past that may have been seen by most of ophthalmologists in the last 40 years back. At the same time recent ophthalmologists may have not seen baby case of trachoma it was disease of under developed countries was prevalent in Africa, Middle East Egypt, India, Pakistan Bangladesh and south East Asia. It is infectious disease caused by bacteria Chlamydia trachomatis serotype A, B and C.
It is a gram negative bacillus previously it was thought be a virus or inclusion body belong to PLT group of viruses. However the infection causes roughening of inner surfaces of lids thereby producing pain subsequent break down of cornea would cause corneal blindness.
