Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is the most common and widely prevalent type of diabetes that accounts for about 90% of the cases reported globally. The disease is usually characterized by hyperglycemia and varying levels of resistance to insulin action and insulin deficiency. The hyperglycemic environment during T2DM often leads to various microvascular and macrovascular complications.
