The United Arab Emirates Background Ulcerative Colitis (UC) is characterized by inflammation and ulcer in the large intestine. It belongs to a group of conditions called the Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) and typically presents between the age of 15-30 years, with a relapsing-remitting course. It does not have any cure to date; however, the disease can be managed effectively with proper treatment. Symptoms The symptoms of UC are depicted in figure 1.
Types of UC Depending on the site and severity of UC, it is classified into the following types, as mentioned in figure 2.
