Scientists in the United States have formulated a novel ultra-long acting pill that can stay in the stomach for up to two weeks from being swallowed and can aid in malaria elimination. A sustained dose of the drug Ivermectin (used in treatment of parasitic infections) could help keep malaria mosquitos in control.This drug delivery type could replace regimes requiring multiple doses.
A professor stated ‘until now, oral drugs would almost never last for more than a day. The study opens the door to ultra-long lasting oral systems, which could have an effect on all kinds of diseases, such as Alzheimer’s or mental health disorders.’ What do you think about this novel drug delivery system?
