Due to the concerted effort of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and the Ministry of Public Health in Qatar, Doha has emerged as the hub of organ transplantation in recent years. This accomplishment has been possible due to the unique Doha Model of Organ Donation. Since the implementation of this model, there has been a drastic reduction in the number of patients traveling abroad for organ transplantation. In 2018, a total of 44 transplant procedures were performed with zero-transplant complications.
The country has accomplished 83 percent self-sufficient status in terms of requirement of organs for transplantation.
