Maintaining sterile, closed urinary drainage system is essential to prevention of Catheter Associated UTI. Most western countries follow the practice of inserting a sampling port with the drainage system. But such is not done in our country.
Collection of urine from the drainage bag results in erroneous results and opening the catheter port leads to increase likelihood of infection. What solution can be suggested for the this dilemma? Catheterized patients often require urine culture when CAUTI is suspected.
