The US FDA has approved depemokimab-ulaa as an add-on maintenance therapy for severe asthma with an eosinophilic phenotype in adults and pediatric patients aged 12 years and older. Depemokimab is an interleukin-5 antagonist designed with an extended half-life, enabling sustained suppression of disease-driving type 2 inflammation with twice-yearly dosing. Clinical evidence The safety and efficacy of depemokimab were assessed in two clinical studies involving a total of 762 patients.

Over 52 weeks, depemokimab significantly reduced the annualized rate of asthma exacerbations by 58% in Study 1 and 48% in Study 2 compared with placebo. Treatment with depemokimab was also associated with fewer exacerbations requiring hospitalization or emergency department visits (Study 1: 1% vs 8%; Study 2: 4% vs 10% with placebo).
