The USFDA is currently investigating the risk of severe hypocalcemia in patients with kidney disease who are on dialysis and receiving denosumab, a human monoclonal antibody used to treat osteoporosis. According to a separate internal FDA study, denosumab may increase the risk of hypocalcemia, hospitalization, and even death in patients with advanced kidney disease.
