The High Court has directed the Maharashtra government to determine the vacancies for doctors and other medical staff in all the state-run hospitals, by conducting a survey. The government has ordered the state to carry out a special recruitment drive in order to fill up the vacancies in hospitals. It has also directed the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) to speed up the approval of all the proposals that are pending, for the appointment of head of departments and senior doctors in state hospitals.
The declaration was made by the government after a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed, that alleges delay on the part of MPSC and the local civic body, in filling vacancies for doctors and other medical staff in the state hospitals for years.
