Commonly when a patient is referred to another doctor usually a specialist or super specialist, after examining the patient, the concerned doctor used to send a letter thanking the referral doctor and also his/her findings for the doctor to know about the diagnosis of the patient after investigating the patient and coming to a conclusion. Unfortunately, nowadays this practice is rarely practiced . They can even call the doctor concerned and discuss the decision.
Apart from that, from a peripheral hospital with fewer facilities when a rare case is diagnosed and sent to corporate hospitals, there is no specific letter addressed to the doctor but only discharge summary is given.
