Very often a medical shop owner is seen dispensing medicines based on old prescriptions. Also, it's a common scenario to find patients using the same medicine for a long time. The question is: Is there a validity period for any prescription? Can a medical shop owner dispense the same medicine even for a 5-year-old prescription? Should the company name be mentioned in any prescription or the generic name only?

What specific instructions should be given to the patient? Most prescriptions are weight based or body area based. The changing parameters will influence the dosage and response. So is  unauthorized  dispensing also punishable?
