Venous ulcers are the most common ulcers that manifest late in the lower extremities. These ulcers are usually irregular, shallow with well-defined borders, and located over bony prominences. Long-standing venous ulcers, when not intervened, accumulate excessive internal pressure that can lead to venous thrombosis, cellulitis and can debilitate the quality of life with amputations.
Early diagnosis leads to simple conservative treatment approaches that include exercises and medications; however, the longer the venous ulcer remains untreated, the challenges increase in multiple folds and can lead to malignancies, bone defects like osteomyelitis, or even septicemia, ensuring compromising surgeries and treatments thereafter.
