The last decade has seen the discovery and use of many new psychotropic drugs in the field of psychopharmacology. As for major depressive disorder (MDD) is concerned, vilazodone is a new drug and psychiatrists are seeing its campaigning and marketting by pharma companies. Vilazodone has been proposed to have a serotonin 5HT1A receptor partial agonistic action that is responsible for its faster onset of antidepressant action in comparison to SSRIs.
Its available in various brand names with strengths of 20/40mg. I want to ask my colleagues about their views regarding this molecule. Have you tried Vilazodone on your patients and if so how good the drug is in respect to action onset, symptom remission, adverse effect profile in depressive patients?
