The procedure of osteoblast supply during bone regeneration remained controversial. However, the latest research suggests that some osteoblast progenitor cells (OPC) that have high expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) provides osteoblast during the process of bone regeneration. In Zebrafish, when these OPCs are eliminated, the regeneration process is impaired. Source: Kazunori Ando, Eri Shibata, Stefan Hans, Michael Brand, Atsushi Kawakami.
