A Patient before operation was administered sodium thiopentone 250 mgs,with succinylcholine 100 mgs. Intubationcould not become possible in first attempt.before 2 nd attempt.Sodium thiopentone 100 mgs with atropine0.6 mg was given and still tube can not be passed and surgery was abandoned.Patient developed massive pulmonary oedema,respiratory and cardiac depression. Despiteconsulting cardiologist and best timely management,patient died with in4 hours.Case of negligence due to over dose of sodium thiopentone filed in District Consumers Dispute Redressal Forum,the case was dismissed.
Itwas challenged in SCDRC ( state commission) where doctor was fined to pay compensation of15 lacs and Rs 10,000/ as cost.Doctor challenged it in NCDRC ( National Commission) where he was absolved of medical negligence. It is tough fight which brought success for doctor,one must take a lesson from this case.…
