The issue of the worldwide rise of antimicrobial resistance has now suspected the food animals to be one of the causes. The new WHO guidelines recommend that the antibiotic use can be stopped especially in context to promote growth of these food animals and to prevent infectious diseases unless they are diagnosed and clinically proven in these animals. It is further recommended that even if the diseases are recognized in animals, it should be treated with drugs other than the antibiotics and the antibiotics should be labelled as “critically important for human medicine”.
