Most patients are quite unhappy when their family physician needs to refer them to a specialist. Specialists are expensive and very busy. While many of them are skilled technicians, they are often not very empathetic, because they are so focused on performing the procedures they specialised in. They very rarely establish a personal emotional connect with the patient.
