After the primary inspection by the Medical Council of India (MCI), two government colleges in Punjab may lose 100 MBBS seats in the forthcoming session. The decision was mostly based on the dilemma of faculty shortage which is one of the most important requirements for increasing the number of MBBS seats. The College assessment report revealed the two eminent government colleges in Patiala and Amritsar had 23% and 16% dearth of faculty respectively.

With this decision, the problem has worsened as many government colleges in the state are failing to take off in terms of faculty and infrastructure, leaving the state with a treacherous situation.
