Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a group of lung diseases, including emphysema and chronic bronchitis. COPD is the leading cause of mortality and morbidity, affecting around 300 million people worldwide. Although there is no cure for this clinical condition, it can be treated with medication that helps to improve the associated symptoms. Smoking is found to be the most common cause of COPD.
Emphasizing the seriousness of COPD and associated health deterioration by spreading awareness among people would help in reducing the global burden of COPD. To create awareness among patients, share knowledge, and present new therapeutic approaches, World COPD Day is observed every year on the third Wednesday of November.
