The World Deaf Day is observed every year on the 27 th of September. It aims to highlight the achievements and challenges faced by individuals with hearing loss. The day is significant as it helps to raise an awareness related to rehabilitation of the affected people and their family members by healthcare authorities. According to WHO, about 466 million people ( 432 million adults and 34 million children ) in the world suffer from disabling hearing loss.
Furthermore, the WHO estimated that by 2050, more than 900 million people would be deaf. Disabling hearing loss refers to a loss of hearing greater than 40 decibels (dB) in adults and 30 dB in children.
