Recently, a baby born prematurely at 25 weeks weighing 550 grams, was discharged after 99 days of intensive care at a reputed hospital in Pune city. After birth, the baby developed respiratory distress syndrome and was kept on life support. After 99 days of battle, the baby was successfully discharged on the 100 th day at a body weight of 1.67kg. A 46-year-old woman had given birth to twins through IVF. One of the babies did not survive while the other was put on life support due to the development of respiratory distress syndrome.
During the hospital course, the baby had an episode of severe infection which was treated aggressively to prevent complications. The baby was managed with parenteral nutrition, medications, and blood in case of anemia. Successfully, on the 100 th day, the baby was discharged at a body weight of 1.67kg. Source: Times of India
