HDL-C has been documented to provide cardiac protection.In lipid profile its high levels are desirable.A study has reported that this HDL-C clears cholesterol from arteries and this is a probable mechanism of its providing cardiac protection.This is known as cholesterol efflux capacity of HDL-C.Contrary to the previous concept it is high cholesterol efflux capacity of HDL which is more desirable than high levels of HDL.I feel that drugs which increase this capacity of HDL will be more useful than those which increase its levels. What is your opinion?
