This article provides a short synopsis on the recent guidelines related to the diagnosis and management of Barrett’s Esophagus. The guidelines were published by the American College of Gastroenterology in 2015. Barrett’s Esophagus (BE) is a serious complication of GERD and is among the most common conditions encountered by the gastroenterologist. BE involves a change of the normal squamous epithelium of the distal esophagus to a columnar-lined intestinal metaplasia (IM).

The risk factors that are linked with the development of BE include long-standing GERD, male gender, central obesity and age over 50 years.
