World Multiple Sclerosis Day is observed every year on May 30th to raise awareness about the condition and support people with multiple sclerosis (MS). The theme for this year is “Connections”, which is all about building community connection, self-connection, and connections to quality care. MS is an autoimmune, inflammatory neurological condition of the central nervous system (CNS). MS attacks the axons in the CNS, destroying the myelin sheath and the axons to various degrees. Most individuals are diagnosed with MS between 20 and 45 years of age.

The condition affects around 2.8 million people worldwide. There is currently no known cure for MS. Therapeutic options include the use of corticosteroids to manage relapses and medications like IFN-β and glatiramer acetates to slow the progression of MS.
