Bladder cancer is the 10th most common form of cancer globally, with 549 393 new cases and 199 922 bladder cancer-related deaths estimated in 2018. It is around four times more common in men, where it is the sixth most common cancer and the ninth leading cause of cancer death.
The incidence of bladder cancer varies globally, with the highest rates in men and women reported in Southern and Western Europe and North America, which appears to reflect the prevalence of tobacco smoking, the main risk factor for bladder cancer.
