After a diagnosis of diabetes: The transformative process of learning to self-manage diabetes Vancouver, BC, Canada, December 1, 2015 -- In a basic qualitative study to explore the participants’ reflections on being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes within the past 12 months and to investigate how they made sense of, and learned about, their diagnosis and their life, researchers reported that study results highlight how self-concept, emotions, and reflective discourse influence the way adults make meaning of their experience of being diagnosed with diabetes and how this experience influences the changes they made to help them manage their disease, according to data presented here at the World Diabetes Congress.
