All India Institute of Medical sciences are planning to engage medical practitioners from Bhopal to promote the rational use of antibiotics. AIIMS Bhopal director Dr. Sarman Singh, during a meeting said, “Imposing a rational antibiotic drug use policy is possible.” Treating infections has become challenging day by day due to increase in antibiotic resistance and lack of usage guidelines. An ICMR study states that almost 5% infections in critical patients are drug resistant.
Thus, on similar lines AIIMS would be sharing drug resistance information across the state for which a mobile application is also being developed that would help the doctors to determine the best possible antibiotic. Majority of the antibiotics have lost efficacy and superbugs are springing up across the globe. Thus, rational use of antibiotics must be promoted in every state. Source: The Economic Times
