Air pollution is the contamination of the air by noxious gases and small particles of solid and liquid matter in amounts that can cause harm to living organisms. Sources of air pollution include transport engines such as automobiles, power and heat generation plants, industrial processes and the burning of biomass as well as solid waste etc. Vehicular emission of pollutants by traffic is considered to be the single largest source of pollution in cities. The most common pollutants are gases like SO2, NOx, ozone, carbon monoxide (CO), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), certain toxic air pollutants and some gaseous forms of metals.
