There is an association between neurodegenerative diseases and exposure to environmental conditions. This article discusses how the environmental factors influence the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis by initiating destructive mechanisms, such as, reduction of immunological self-tolerance, inflammatory-oxidative cascades, and neurodegeneration. World Health Organization (WHO) reports that air pollution causes over 3 million deaths every year. Exposure to air pollutants have been spotted as one of the leading causes of respiratory and cardiovascular morbidities and mortalities.
