It is an indisputable fact that there is an increase in the prevalence of dermatophytosis over the past 4–5 years across the country. Comparison of studies done on superficial fungal infections in cities such as Kolkata, Ahmedabad, and Chennai during different time frames has revealed an increasing trend of dermatophytosis. This article highlights the epidemiological studies to bolster the nationwide observation of the alarming increase in dermatophytosis incidence and prevalence. Dermatophytes are a group of fungi that infect the keratinized tissues of human and animals.
