Amiodarone, an iodinated benzofuran derivative that is widely used for the treatment of cardiac arrhythmia. It is a potent antiarrhythmic class III agent which also has class I, II, IV actions. It is a ‘broad-spectrum’ in its action and effectiveness, however, its chronic use results in accumulation, and toxicity. Almost three-fourth of patients receiving chronic Amiodarone therapy experience side effect and 7-18% discontinue therapy.
