A stroke can be an ischemic stroke caused by blockage of blood vessels in the brain or a hemorrhagic stroke caused by damaged blood vessels in the brain. Every year, 105-152 per 100,000 people are affected by stroke in India, and about 70-75% of strokes that occur in India are ischemic. Endovascular treatment helps remove a blood clot from the blood vessel and restore the blood flow using microcatheters that are inserted into an artery from the groin or the arm.
The treatment can be done by: Microcatheter delivery of tissue plasminogen activator to break down the blood clots Removal of blood clots using stent retriever devices Aspirating the blood clots and restoring the blood flow using vacuum-powered devices Carotid artery stenting to increase the blood flow Carotid angioplasty, in which a balloon is inserted into the carotid artery and inflated to widen the blood vessel.
