Though gastrointestinal diseases are very common in children and treated successfully, inappropriate use of antibiotics leads to antibiotic resistance. It is estimated that 50% or more of hospital antimicrobial use is inappropriate. Therefore, this article discusses national antibiotic guidelines for various infectious gastrointestinal diseases in children. These guidelines discuss the recommended treatments for common gastrointestinal infectious diseases. It is emphasized that antimicrobials should be prescribed only when they are necessary for treatment following a clear diagnosis.
