Dear Doctors, I would like to know the relationship between anitbiotics and heart valve surgery. For how long should antibiotics not be prescribed after the surgery. are there any specific Guidelines on it? I read a case study recently, where amoxi 750 mg 1-1-1 for 3 days was prescribed to a patient who is 72 y.o.
The basic reason I found out from the case report for prescribing amoxi was to prevent any bacterial infection to the patient because of the cut she got while cutting vegetable. History of surgery was not mentioned. So thought of discussing the same "For how long should antibiotic be restricted to patients with heart valve surgery"
