According to a recent study, adults aged 65 years or above were prescribed with enough outpatient antibiotic courses. On an average, annually, every older adult was receiving at least one antibiotic prescription. Also, most of the time antibiotic prescription was associated with patient satisfaction. A group of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention researchers evaluated outpatient antibiotic prescriptions from 2011 to 2014 in adults aged 65 years or above.

It was found that approximately 50 million antibiotic courses were prescribed annually, correlating to 1110 prescriptions per 1000 person-years. Also, the prescribing rate for women was higher than for men, and the prescribing rate rose with increasing age. Share your views! Source: Medscape
