Aortic stenosis (AS) is the most prevalent form of cardiovascular disease after hypertension and coronary artery disease. Due to the increasing average life expectancy, the prevalence of AS requiring aortic valve replacement (AVR) is continuously increasing. Nevertheless, the risk of conventional AVR with the use of sternotomy, cardiopulmonary bypass, and cardioplegic cardiac arrest is higher in the elderly patient. Therefore, there is a need for newer treatment options such as minimally invasive techniques and new prosthesis valves for improving overall patient outcomes.
