Many a time we are called to a patient's home after his death to examine and declare his death and issue a death certificate. Sometimes I may have seen the patient alive some time ago; or sometimes I see the person dead as the first visit. How can I issue a DC without knowing the antecedents of the case? The family makes a huge fuss and noise when I refuse.

Am I not getting into trouble issuing a DC without fully ascertaining the cause of death? The patient party think that we doctors should automatically issue DC as part of our duties. Are there any guidelines, rules for the same? Kindly give your views.
