All Governments wants is to give free medical treatment even at tertiary level. It all started with our own Ex Andhra CM, Dr Rajasekhara Reddy, who introduced Arogyasree scheme ostensibly to bring tertiary medical treatment to the doorsteps of the poor and the disadvantaged sections of the society. Wonderful idea in theory, but did it work out in practice.
Actually the Arogyasree scheme has been exploited right from the beginning.....Both by the public and by the Corporate hospitals. It is no secret that Arogyasree cards were distributed to all and sundry at the beginning of the scheme and according to one data, the number of Arogyasree cards were double the number of white ration cards issued in a particular area.....And what is more, people can get an Arogyasree card in their name, by pulling some strings and greasing some palms.
