Recent studies indicate a complex interaction between chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and arthritis , potentially affecting patient outcomes through shared inflammatory pathways, lifestyle factors, and genetic predispositions. However, the extent to which COPD impacts the prognosis of individuals with arthritis remains uncertain. To bridge this gap, a study has investigated whether COPD increases mortality risk in 11,298 individuals with arthritis (average age: 59.2 years).
Over a median follow-up period of 8.8 years, COPD was associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality (hazard ratio (HR): 1.67) and cardiovascular disease (CVD)-related mortality (HR: 1.47). Even after multivariable adjustments, these associations remained significant, with HRs of 1.41 for all-cause mortality and 1.29 for CVD-related mortality. Sensitivity analysis further showed a strong linkβ¦
