Researchers tested the effects of aspirin and other anti-inflammatory drugs on HIV target cells in Kenyan women with low risk of HIV. Transmission of HIV needs a susceptible target cell. Compared to inactive cells triggered immune cells are more susceptible to HIV infection. So, if the cells are targeted by HIV it leads to inflammation which carries triggered HIV target cells to the female genital tract.

It was discovered that aspirin was most effective amongst other anti-inflammatory drugs as it decreased 35% of HIV target cells in the female genital tract. The study was published in the journal of the International AIDS society . Source- The Hindu
