Atrioventricular (AV) block refers to impaired conduction of electrical impulses from the atria to the ventricles, leading to varying degrees of heart block. It is classified into first-degree (prolonged conduction), second-degree (intermittent failure of conduction), and third-degree or complete heart block (no conduction between atria and ventricles). Causes include ischemic heart disease, medications such as beta-blockers or calcium channel blockers, and degenerative conduction system disease. Clinical presentation ranges from asymptomatic cases to symptoms like dizziness, syncope, or heart failure, depending on severity.
Management depends on the type and symptoms, with severe cases often requiring pacemaker implantation. Join eminent cardiologist Dr. Preetam Krishnamurthy in our informative webinar to learn more about the “AV Block” on 10 th May 2026 at 8:00 pm onwards . Stay…
