NORSTENT clinical trial was designed to compare the long-term outcomes of drug-eluting stents vs bare metal stents. The trial revealed no difference between the stents with respect to death and myocardial infarction. Drug-eluting stents showed an advantage in both repeat revascularization and stent thrombosis at six-year follow-up.
