Blood pressure is defined as lateral pressure exerted  by contained column of blood on the vessel wall when heart pumps. Normal blood pressure is 120/80mm Hg. Blood pressure is expressed in different terms, namely Systolic pressure :  this is maximum pressure exerted in the arteries during systole of heart. It reflects stroke volume. Diastolic pressure : this is the minimum pressure present in the arteries during diastole of heart.

It reflects peripheral vascular resistance. Pulse pressure: this is the difference between the systolic and diastolic pressure. A high pulse pressure indicates risk of coronary artery disease.
